Meet Andrew

Andrew Mihalka - Founder

Hi, I’m Andrew Mihalka, the founder of EFA Care.

My understanding of disability began long before it became my profession. Growing up, I helped support my mum, who lived with epilepsy from childhood.

That experience gave me an early understanding of how disability can affect everyday life—not only for the person, but also for the family members who love and support them.

It taught me the importance of patience, reliability and remaining calm when circumstances change unexpectedly. More importantly, it taught me to see the person before the diagnosis.

That personal foundation, combined with my professional experience, continues to shape how I support participants today.

I have worked with people with autism, Down syndrome, epilepsy, psychosocial disability, behavioural support needs, personal care requirements and other complex support needs.

My approach is calm, direct and person-centred. Good support is not about taking control or simply completing tasks for someone.

It is about building trust, recognising the person’s strengths and providing the right level of assistance for them to develop skills, participate in their community and exercise greater control over their own life.

I also understand the pressure that families and informal supports can experience. While the participant always remains at the centre of our work, I value honest communication and respectful collaboration with the people around them.

I founded EFA Care to provide the consistency, accountability and genuine human connection that participants and their families deserve.

Every person should feel safe being themselves, know who is supporting them and trust that their support worker genuinely understands the responsibility they have been given.
